Elementary my dear Watson
The OWGK’s Jr. Hockey Club are pleased to announce that one of its own will be attending Wake Forest University in North Carolina. James Watson, ½ of the twin towers on defense for last year’s team, has been accepted into the Wake Forest business program beginning this fall. WFU has one of the top five best business programs in the country and this kind of an opportunity is one he could not pass up.

“Watty” will be sorely missed this year as he was going to be counted on to play a more dominant role with this years team. Although we only had James for later ½ of last season, fans witnessed this rookie develop into a player who elevated his game to becoming one of the most consistent performers during the play-offs.

James is the 2nd player from last year’s team who is going on to continue his education, as earlier this year Brendan Manley had accepted enrollment at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.

"James Watson is one of the most intelligent, and respectful young men to come through our program, and although only with the team for a short stint had quickly gained the admiration of
his fellow team-mates. I can honestly speak for the entire organization when saying, we will
miss him this upcoming season, but at the same time want to wish you the best of success.” expressed Blake "Ace" Sinclair.

While at Wake Forest, he will be playing for the University Hockey team. A word from the wise,
“ Watch out for those Southern Belle cheer leaders, stay focused on school and hockey!”

OWGK' HAVE THEIR MAN
JULY 30TH -OTTAWA
The Ottawa-West Golden Knights Jr. Hockey Club are pleased to announce the hiring of their new head coach, Sylvain Chaput, for the upcoming 2010/11 season. “The game has been evolving over the last 3- 4 years and is going back to more offence. I knew we had to
take the team in that direction so I simply went out and got the right man for the job, and our club couldn’t be happier.” stated Golden Knights owner Blake Sinclair. The OWGK’s success over the last decade has come primarily due to the fact that they have concentratedon defensive systems, making each player accountable at both ends of the ice. Change however is a good thing and Chaput will be counted on to provide guidance and encouragement while challenging the players to be more creative. Over the last couple of years the club has been blessed in acquiring a number of extremely talented, offensively minded players who can put the puck in the net..

NCR won its division and advanced to the elite 8 bowing out to a Toronto based team with 10 Major Junior players including the Ottawa 67's own Jon Carnevale. NCR was the only Ottawa based program to advance to the playoff round.

Ryley Egan had a very strong showing playing a prominant role at both ends of the ice scoring 1 goal and 5 assists while finishing the tournament at plus 5. It was a fantastic experience for Ottawa West Golden Knights Assistant Coach Jordan Stitt who ran the forwards and the teams tactical systems the entire tournament.

Knights Lose series in OT

The Ottawa West Golden Knights did their best to even the series Tuesday night, but with just over two minutes to go in overtime, Thomas Kokelj scored to give the Canadians a 3-2 win and end the Knights quest of repeating as EOJHL Champions.

Knights
stay alive
The Ottawa West Golden Knights staved off elimination with a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Jr. Canadians last night. Trailing 3-2 in the series, the Knights must continue to play desperate hockey again tonight for game six at the Jim Durrell arena.

Knights have BACK TO THE WALL

The Ottawa West Golden Knights are going to have to mount a big comeback if they intend to advance past the Jr. Canadians. After losing 4-1 Saturday night, the Knights now trail the best of seven series, 3-1.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Knights rebound to defeat Canadians  6-3

On the night the OWGK's honoured two of it's finest alumni players in Harley Paterson and Paul Tremblay, the Knights rebounded to defeat the Canadians by a score of 6-3 in game three of the Metro Division Final.

Perhaps inspired by how determined and passionate both Paul and Harley played the game, the Ottawa West Golden Knights played their best opening period of the series thus far.

Ryley Egan opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the opening period, with his fifth of the playoffs. Matthew MacDonald(2) and Taylor Alexander(6) rounded out the scoring to give the Knights a 3-0 lead after one period of play.

After the Jr. Canadians scored two goals early in the second, Taylor Alexander scored his seventh of the playoffs unassisted, to give the Knights a two goal cushion. In the third, Ross Fleming notched his first of the campaign and Adam Scobie with his fifth, sealed the deal for the Knights who have now made this a series, trailing 2-1.

Knight's coach, Blake Sinclair was happy with the victory, but is growing tired of seeing his goalies being run and his players being hit from behind. "We lost one goalie in the last series against Clarence when he was run and it now seems like their tactic is to deliberately injure our players and other goalie" stated OWGK's coach Sinclair, who was extremely upset near the end of the game. "I've always encouraged my players to play hard, but fair. Treat your opponents with respect and represent yourself and our organization with class. We would rather stick to playing hockey, but if it's a war they want, then it's a war their going to get"

KNIGHTS DOWN BUT NOT OUT!
Wed Mar 10/10
Another big loss to the Ottawa Jr. Canadians has the Knights frustrated and looking for answers after falling 7-3 Tuesday. Trailing 2-0 in the best of seven Metro finals, Ottawa West needs to stop the bleeding in a hurry.

When reached for comment early this morning, a tired sounding coach Sinclair said "We've dug ourselves a bit of a hole and we're going to have to work our way out of it". When asked if injuries have played a role in the two loses Sinclair said, "We can't use that as an excuse even if we do have some key guys out of the line-up. We pride ourselves on team play and I believe in the guys we have in the line-up. It's not going to be easy but Clarence taught us last series that it ain't over till it's over, and it ain't over!

KNIGHTS Lose series
OPENER AGAINST CANADIANS
Tue Mar 9/10
With a decisive 7-4 victory over Ottawa West Monday night, the Ottawa Jr. Canadians served notice that this series is going to be every bit as tough as last year's. There's no time to rest up either with a game tonight in Ottawa, then Thursday at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena. They go at it again on Saturday playing four games in seven days.

Metro Final series
AGAINST CANADIANS STARTS MONDAY NIGHT
Mon Mar 8/10
Ottawa West vs. Ottawa is a rivalry that goes back many years and will most likely grow before this series is over. There has been a great deal of bad blood between these two cross-town teams. Last year's Metro division final ended in a dramatic, 7th game, come from behind victory by the Knights.

Knights win series in double overtime

Thurs Mar 4/10
The Ottawa West Golden Knights are advancing to the next round but not without getting all they could handle from a very good Clarence team. Anyone who witnessed last night's game seven at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena between the Ottawa West Golden Knights and the Clarence Creek Castors saw one of the best EOJHL game 7's of all time. The Knights won by a score of 3-2 in double overtime on a goal by Ryan Sterling to win the series.

" It was the most intense play-off series I've been involved with since joining the Knights (8) eight years ago". said "Ace" Sinclair coach of the Knights. "I'm so elated for our players and the organization however I feel for Clarence." stated Sinclair. "Their entire team played their hearts out and the series could have gone either way."

The Knights knew how close this series was going to be and feel fortunate to have come out victorious. "I've coached both Jamie Begin and Ryan Schreider helping guide them to EOJHL league championships. I was proud of the way they played like warriors and I knew they would never give up." Sinclair went on to say.

Begin was instrumental in helping Clarence turn things around in game 4 when the Knights had a 3-0 lead in the series. "As a coach and owner of a team in this league, it's always emotional for me to shake hands and look into the eyes of the opposing teams players at the end of a series when we have won. I know how hard they have battled. These are good young men who, hopefully someday will become great hockey players or coach and mentor in the sport we are so passionate about." Coach Sinclair added "It's a relief to have come out on top. I was this close to firing the Coach"

The Clarence Creek Beavers and it's fans should be extremely proud of their club. This is one classy organization from its GM-Charlie Lavictoire, to its head coach - Joel Clement and his staff, and its leadership in captain James Talbot, Pat Brisson and Jamie Begin. These (3) three lead the Metro/Valley conference finishing 1,2,3 in scoring and have solidified themselves as one of the best offensive lines this league has ever seen.

The Knight's now switch their focus to the Ottawa Canadians as they try to claim the Metro Division championship title. It all starts again on Monday March 8th at home. The puck drops is at 7:20 pm.

---------------------------------------------------------------

SERIES GOES SEVEN

Wed Mar 3/10
OWGK's fall short of a miraculous comeback Wednesday night in Game 6 of the EOJHL Metro Division semi-final. After a slow start and being down 4-1 the Knights finally started to play Knights hockey, battling back hard to tie the game 4-4 late in regulation play before losing in overtime 5-4 to Clarence.

"We were expecting a long series against Clarence as they are an extremely good team" coach Sinclair of the OWGK's stated. "Our boy's are not happy about losing the last 3 games, however we worked hard all season for home ice in a seven game series and it's up to us now to take advantage of it. I guess we'll just have to wait and see."

The younger players on the Knights really played well. Patrick Martin, Matt MacDonald and Adrian Botti were key in the comeback, adding energy and determination, but in the end it wasn't quite enough.

Thursday nights game seven should be a thriller. Puck drops at 7:20pm at the Barbara Ann Scott arena. Come out and show your support.

Knights Fall to Clarence

Tue Mar 2/10
The Clarence Castors are not going away and to prove it they've made this a series, winning 3-2 Monday night over Ottawa West.

The Knights out-shot Clarence in the game but couldn't capitalize on a number of chances in the third. Special teams play was the difference, as all five goals were scored on the power play.

Knights captain Adam Scube, made his return to action and opened the scoring half way through the first period. Ruining the captain's return was Jason Talbot who broke out of his goal scoring drought by scoring all three goals for Clarence.

The Knights have to win one of the next two games to advance as they barely hold onto a 3-2 lead in this best of seven series. The next game is Wednesday night in Clarence. If necessary game seven will be played Thursday in Ottawa.

Clarence Quickly, Gets Back in Series

Sun Feb 28/10
Two goals in fourteen seconds was enough for Clarence to win their first game of the series. After both teams went two periods without scoring, Knights forward Taylor Alexander opened the scoring at 9:40 of the third before Clarence struck for two goals in a span of fourteen seconds then held on for the victory.

With Scott Cowie in the box for high-sticking, Jamie Begin scored his second of the playoffs at 16:05 of the third period. Tying the game at one. At 16:19, Eric Lortie notched his first of the playoffs to give Clarence the lead.

Knights Take Stranglehold on Series

Thurs Feb 25/10
Ryan Sterling scored 1 minute and 50 seconds into overtime to give the Knights a dramatic come from behind 3-2 victory over Clarence Thursday night.

Brett Madigan chose an opportune time to score his first of the play-offs when,
with just over a minute to play in the third he fired the puck past Clarence goalie Patrick Martin to tie the game at 2-2.

Then it was Ryan Sterling turn to steal the spotlight with his first of the play-offs. Ryan made an outstanding play in his own end knocking the Clarence player off the puck then took off up ice, out skating everyone
to walk in all alone on Martin. Ryan made a sick move going backhand for the winning goal in overtime.

A number of players really stepped up in this game, Matt MacDonald did a great job helping shut down the top line of Clarence. Steve Carrey was outstanding after the first two goals and Scott Cowie must of logged forty minutes of ice time.

KNIGHTS WIN BATTLE ON THE ROAD

Sun Feb 21/10
With their 5-3 win on the road Sunday afternoon, the Ottawa West Golden Knights have taken a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series against Clarence.

The Knights stormed out to a 3-1 lead in the first with Brandon Durant opening the scoring just three minutes into the game. Scott Cowie scored a power play goal for the Knights at 7:34, before the Knights gave up a power play goal of their own to Patrick Boivin, bringing Clarence to within one goal. As the first period was winding down Neil Clarke scored his second of the play-offs, giving the Knights a two goal cushion going into the second.

"I'm real happy with our level of energy and work ethic" said coach Sinclair. "Everybody is contributing and playing key rolls"

The Knights scored two quick goals in the second period when Ryley Egan and Taylor Alexander scored just over a minute apart. Jamie Begin replied for Clarence with less than a minute to go giving them a glimmer of hope going into the third.

In the third period Knights goalie Steve Carrey had to come up with a number of key saves, as Clarence out shot the Knights 16-6. Only Phillippe Patry could solve the netminder when he snuck one by with about five minutes left to go in the game.  Game three of this series goes Thursday night at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena. Puck drops at 7:20pm

Knights Draw First blood

Fri Feb 19/10
Ottawa - The OWGK's battled back from a 2-0 deficit to take game one against Clarence Creek Thursday night at the Barbara Ann Scott Arena. The hard fought 4-2 win gives the Knights the early 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

"The boy's played an inspirational game in coming back tonight." said Coach Sinclair after the game.

It didn't start off well for the Knights, who ran into penalty trouble in the 1st and 2nd periods before settling down and playing more disciplined hockey in the 3rd. "We can't keep taking penalties if we hope to win this series. It was a great effort to come back and it was encouraging to see everyone playing a part in tonight's win, but this series has just begun and it is far from over." said Sinclair.

Clarence is a good hockey team and they're not about to give up. Neither will these group of Knights who showed us Thursday that they will battle until the end.

Captain Adam Skube did not dress for Thursday's game. He is out of the line-up with what is being described as a lower body injury. He's day to day and is hopefull for game two in Clarence on Sunday afternoon.

Knights Gunning to be Golden Greats
By AEDAN HELMER, Ottawa Sun
Fri Feb 12/10

The Olympic Games may be just around the corner, but closer to home, there’s another group of athletes with golden dreams.

The Ottawa West Golden Knights will begin their quest to defend the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League title on Thursday.

Even though the Golden Knights sit in first place in their division and conference — the same position they have occupied for five of the last eight seasons — they know it won’t be an easy road.

The regular season wraps up this weekend with the four playoff-bound Metro Division teams — the Golden Knights with 66 points, the Ottawa Jr. Canadians with 59, and the Gatineau Mustangs and Clarence Beavers tied with 54 — all hitting their stride at the right time.

“Any one of those four teams can beat anyone on any given night,” said EOJHL commissioner Dwaine Barkley. “It’s nice to see so many meaningful games that kids are competing right up until the very end. But if I were a gambling man, I wouldn’t want to bet any money in that division.” read full Story @ Ottawa Sun

Knights Take Shawville in Dying Seconds
Fri Feb 12/10
The OWGK's squeaked by the Shawville Pontiac's by a score of 5-4 last night in front of a good crowd at Barbara Ann Scott Arena. Ryan Sterling scored on beautiful feed from Brendan Manley with only 12.7 seconds remaining on the clock.

Brandon Durant played a solid game, adding two goals of his own. Brandon is a player who leads by example and will be counted on a great deal during the playoff run. "Brandon's work ethic over the past 10 games has been tremendous but he wasn't being rewarded on the score sheet. He was getting frustrated, so it was nice to see him pot a couple." said Coach Sinclair shortly after the game.

The team plays it's last regular season game tonight in Metcalfe against the Jets.

Clarence Down Knights 3-2 in Possible Play-Off Preview
Thurs Feb 11/10
The Knights loss to the Clarence Castors on Wednesday in Clarence, has prolonged determining play-off positioning in the Metro Division. The Knights will now have to wait for the final regular season games in the Metro division to determine first round match-ups. The Beavers 3-2 win has left them tied for third with one more game to play in their regular season. Gatineau, with two games left, hold their own fate.

The second place Ottawa Jr. Canadians have already completed their regular season finishing with 59 points. The Knights with 64 points, have locked up first place and home ice advantage in the Metro/Valley Conference. They have two games remaining which will have no impact on the standings. Tonight at home against Shawville and their last game of the regular season and third game in three nights, on Friday in Metcalfe.

"Our last games may not mean anything in the standings but they should mean something to us," said a frustrated coach Sinclair after the loss Wednesday night.

"You're heading into the play-offs and as a team you want to have good work habits. Everybody has to finish their checks, battle hard and play with determination. That was not the case tonight and it better be for everybody these last two games." the coach went on to say with emphasis on the word everybody.

KNIGHTs EXPRESS BACK ON TRACK

Wed Jan 27/10
The OWGK's won 5-2 over the Ottawa Jr. Canadians Tuesday night. With a few more wins they should lock up first place in the entire EOJHL and have home ice advantage through-out the play-offs.

The Knights next game is at home against the Gatineau Mustangs who beat the Knights 4-1 last Friday. The Knights will be out to avenge their only road loss of the season.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
KNIGHTs Lose first road game

Fri Jan 22/10
When the season started the Ottawa West Golden Knights didn't think they could go all year without a road loss. But with only 4 road games left going into Friday's action in Gatineau, it was a possibility.

All that came to an end Friday night when the Gatineau Mustangs defeated the Knights 4-1. More concerning than a perfect road record was the teams focus going in and a power play that has sputtered in the past several games. The PP was 0-6 Friday and has only one goal in the last 15 opportunities. "It's frustrating when each win brings us closer to locking up first place and a number of guys don't show up" said a disappointed Coach Sinclair.

The Knights will need to get the train back on the tracks this week with big games against the Ottawa Jr. Canadians on Tuesday and at home Thursday against the Mustangs.

ROAD WARRIORS DON'T BACK DOWN

Mon Jan 18/10
The Ottawa West Golden Knights have one of the best road records in Junior hockey and Clarence was not too happy after becoming another victim Sunday afternoon, losing 4-2 to the Knights. In fact, they were so unhappy about losing at home, they tried to turn the game into a UFC event.

Ben Bakker of Clarence was given multiple game misconduct and fighting majors as things turned ugly when the final buzzer sounded. "It wasn't easy to control the boys on the bench" said Ottawa West coach Blake Sinclair, who had to watch helplessly, while two of their players jumped off the bench to participate in the melee. "You never want to see your team short handed in those situations" said coach Sinclair still steaming hours after the game had ended. "February 4th", the coach was repeating. "February 4th, their in our barn, you don't want to miss that one!"

The boys didn't back down all game and continued their unbeaten streak on the road. They now own a 17-0-1 record on the road and with only eight games left in the regular season, the boys are preparing to have the Knight Express steaming down the tracks with all pistons pumping for the play-offs.

KNIGHTS Express Almost derails in Metcalfe

Sat Jan 16/10
OTTAWA — Despite their record the last place Metcalfe Jets came out and played hard against the first place Knights, forcing overtime. The Knights managed to win, 4-3 with the overtime winner at 2:21 scored by Brandon Durant. Assisted by Ryley Egan and Neil Clarke.

Knights Steam Past South Ottawa

Fri Jan 15/10
The Golden Knight Express made a stop at home before heading down the tracks to Metcalfe on Friday night and then Clarence Creek for a Sunday afternoon game against the Castors. Thursday's home game against rivals Ottawa South was dominated by Ottawa West's younger players. The games engineer was rookie Brendan Manley who lead the team to an 8-2 win.

On a night he won't soon forget, Brendan had 4 goals and 2 assists. What is so impressive is that Brendan is only playing his 4th game after missing almost 5 weeks with a concussion.

"The team is playing extremely well at this juncture of the season and that's encouraging. Both goaltenders are playing extremely well and everyone is making a contribution. Tonight it was the younger players who really stepped up their game and lead us to the win. They got things started for us early and then just kept feeding the big engines fire box with coal all night long." said a beaming Coach Sinclair after the game.

Everything that was asked of them was given. I know there's more in them but as a coaching staff we are extremely proud of these young men for the way they have been playing."

KNIGHTS sign DEFENCEMEN at trade deadline
Mon Jan 11/10
OTTAWA — At the trading deadline the Ottawa-West Golden Knights strengthened an already strong defensive core. The Knight Express keeps on rolling

Fri Jan 08/10
The Knights defeated the injury riddled Metcalfe Jets Thursday night by a score of 8-2. It wasn't a great start for the Knights considering their opponents struggles this season. After the first period the score was tied at one goal each.

While the team has the best road record in the division, the coaching staff have not been satisfied with the team's performance at home and feel their record should be better. When asked, assistant coach Dan Charbonneau stated, "We were not ready to play at the start and seemed to be going through the motions. The boy's played scrambled hockey and need to stick to the game plan. If we do that against the Mustangs on Saturday night the game could get out of hand in a hurry. The entire team must be ready to play for a complete 60 minutes."

Jim "Snipe" Lyons, who has played defence for a majority of the year, was moved up front by coach "Ace" Sinclair to provide some physical presence and energy. He has done just that. "Jim has worked extremely hard and it seems to be a good move. He's been a bit of a force the last several games. I've told him to keep driving the net and just get the puck there" Sinclair said. He was rewarded with his 1st goal of the season last night and the whole team celebrated. Other notables in the game were Lyons' line-mates, Ross Fleming and Brendan Manley who both gave a solid effort.

The Knight Express will have to refuel and ready themselves for a battle vs the Gatineau Mustangs, who are in town for a rare Saturday night home game. This will be a battle for 1st place in the Metro/Valley Conference as both teams sit atop the division with 49 points respectfully. see photos

ROSTER MOVES
Sun Nov 15/
09
The team acquired another young ‘92 defenceman in James Watson from the Kemptville 73's. “James is a young defenceman with size and ability. I am hopeful he can come in and quickly adapt to our style of play and adopt to our systems. Watson, along with another young defenseman Ryan Pike, both ‘92's, have two excellent veteran defenceman to learn from in Scott Cowie and Neil Clarke. Scott Cowie has major junior and CJHL experience under his belt which should really help to provide guidance to our strong defensive core.

Knights Making a Move

Fri Nov 13/09
The Ottawa West Golden Knights Jr. Hockey Club defeated the Ottawa Jr. Canadians for the 3rd straight time this season by a score of 6-2 and take over second place in the Metro standings.

Since coach "Ace" Sinclair made a decision to move veteran player Scott Cowie back to defense, the team has not lost a game. "He seems to stabilize the outstanding core group of defensemen we have and they seem play with much more confidence." said the coach. Scott has excepted the role and has established himself as a fabulous leader along with captain Adam Skube and Brandon Durant." Everyone contributed tonight and I was happy to see Nick Straccinni score a couple of timely goals tonight just when the team needed it.

The coaching staff were extremely pleased with the effort in tonight's game. They have a couple of days off to get some R&R with the team holding it's 2nd annual curling bonspiel on Saturday at the Nepean Sportsplex before setting their sights on the Clarence-Creek Castors on Sunday afternoon.

WEEKEND WARRIORS

Mon Oct 25rd/09
OTTAWA -- The Ottawa West Golden Knights were on the road this weekend and came back with all four possible points. The Knights remain undefeated in their last six games and have done it while the club has struggled to keep a full line-up for each game.

On Saturday the Knight's handed Almonte a 6-2 loss and Sunday beat Valley Division leading, Arnprior Packers by a 2-1 margin.

The flu virus hit the team over the last 2 weeks, and many of the players attending University or College had mid term exams. Injuries have also played a part. Veteran defenseman Richard Lee, who should be back soon has been out with a concussion for the last 3 weeks.

"Our goaltending has been good all season and is one of the reasons we have the fewest goals against. Adam Morden was stellar last week between the pipes. We're fortunate to have 3 excellent goaltenders. Alex, Adam and Steve have played well and have been supportive of each other so far this season. It's all about the team not the individual and that has helped us get over the hump this month" said Coach Blake Sinclair

OWGK SHORE UP THEIR DEFENCE
Monday July 6th/09
The Ottawa-west Golden Knights Jr. Hockey Club are pleased to announce the acquisition of defenseman Mitch Melanson from the Arnprior Packers . In return Arnprior receive two (2) talented young prospects in Chris Shepherd and Kyle Drisdelle both of who are graduating midgets from the last year's city championship Major Midget team The Nepean Raiders coached by Peter Tenute.

The Knights are hoping that Melanson will shore up what should be a good defensive core. President / Owner Blake Sinclair is expecting Melanson to come to camp in excellent shape. We are looking for him to add a little offence on the back end but like everyone else in this organization knows, he'll have to earn his ice time.
